Maybe someone can help me. I have a chromecast with google TV connected to my AVR directly. I have enabled all surround sound modes, and using Netflix and Disney+ I get surround output without issues. But the problem is with files in my shared disc, the disc is connected to my ASUS router and using SMB I can access it, I've used VLC, KODI and MX player in the chromecast with similar results, the AVR only receives a stereo PCM signal. I thought it could be the shared disc itself, but using my TV operating system to access these files on the disc, then the AVR receives the AC3 surround sound without problems.
No idea how to get around this.... Anyone has such a set-up or hints for this.

Hey there Derf_Person,
I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that sound issue? If not, I'd be happy to help you figure this out. Chromecast will not decode AC3, but it will send it to a TV with audio pass-through enabled. This should allow you to receive surround sound from your shared disc if your TV’s digital audio output format should be set to Auto. If that doesn't occur, make sure your Chromecast is up-to-date on its firmware to be safe.
I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran
