Chrome (Windows) finds chromecast after reboot of modem, but soon after doesn't find it anymore

PeterHendrix

I followed all the instructions in the help pages multiple times.
I have rebooted my chromecast several times and set it back to factorysettings with a complete new setup through Google Home three times.
But nothing solves this issue.
Each time I reboot the wifi modem, Chrome does see the chromecast for a short while, but then not anymore.
The wifi connection is still there, because I can operate the chromecast with the remote and play video's from the apps. I can also cast the screen of my android phone. But Chrome on my laptop doesn't find the chromecast anymore.
I never had this problem with the older version of the chromecast. But since I have the new one, I've had it a few times at first, but now all the time.
I can't know for certain if it is a Windows/Chrome problem or a problem with the chromecast, but my guess is the chromecast.
Has anybody any suggestions? Or is this just a failing chromecast?

Dear Muddi,

I think the problem is solved.
I think it was/is caused by a wifi extender that uses the same network ID and password than the original wifi modem. I suspect that the cromecast does not accept the extender als the same network or something like that.
After rebooting the modem, naturally also the extender needs to reconnect again. In this time window everything seemed normal. After the extender gets active again, the connection from my pc was lost again. This is all speculation, of course...
And, no, I did not have the same problem with my cell phone. From my cell, I didn't lose the connection to the cromecast.
This thread may be closed as far as I'm concerned. But wifi extenders may by added to the list of possible causes of connection problems with chrome cast devices.

Kind regards,
Peter

And if I may add: the solution consisted in resetting the cromecast with the wifi extender inactive, so it could only connect with the original modem. And only after that re-activating the wifi-extender.

Dear Alex,
Yes, I still need help. I just wrote an answer to Jennifer above.
I reinstalled Chrome, but it's still the same behaviour. After a short while, Chrome doesn't find the chromecast anymore. I've taken all the steps recommended in the help pages (more than once)...
Any ideas?

Hey PeterHendrix,

Apologize for the delays. Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To confirm, are you having the same issues when casting from your phone to Chromecast device? Do you have an anti-virus set installed on your computer?

Please make sure that the Chrome browser on your computer is updated. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  5. Click Relaunch.

Keep us posted.

Dear Jennifer,
I regret to inform you that the problem persists.
I admit that uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome was a step I had not performed yet. But now I have.
And the problem remains.
All the troubleshooting steps your article refers to have been tried more than once, I can assure you.
What did you mean by 'being a step a step ahead of us' in your message? I assumed a new bug in Chrome was discovered, but now I'm not so sure.
Any other ideas to solve the issue?
