Chromecast Ultra only in stereo at Disney+

Unlike Amazon Prime, for example, Chromecast Ultra does not play 5.1 (DolbyDigital(plus)) at Disney+, but instead uses PCM Stereo 2.0.

Could someone confirm that it works on Chromecast (non-Ultra)?

Hi @valerian 

When I used the Chromecast Ultra I also had some issues with Dolby Digital and my set up.
But when I switched to Google TV it did work.

Somehow Chromecast Ultra does have some issues with some TV's and sound setups... 🙄

Thanks for your findings.

Chromecast Ultra changed the behavior in december 2022, so either Google disabled the 5.1 at Disney+ or Disney 😢

I don't think Google disabled 5.1 surround sound on the Chromecast Ultra (as Prime does work) but it could be Disney changed something.

Disney+ App reinstallation was already done (didn't mentioned, sorry). It was also not worked for other people (read at Twitter).

So there should be a (since december 2022 new!) issue using Chromecast Ultra and Disney+ and DD5.1 sound.

Disney+ Support was not able to solve the issue after approx. 1h (Cache clearing, resets, reboots, ...). The issue is still persisting:

Amazon Prime: DolbyDigital+ 5.1

Disney+: DolbyDigital 2.0

So the question is, why Chromecast Ultra and Disney+ are not working properly together (any more).

Hi there,

 

Thanks for getting back to us. As other apps are working with the Chromecast Ultra, the issue might be with the Disney+ app. However, you may try to unplug the Chromecast Ultra and plug it back in on a different HDMI port on your TV. Resetting your Chromecast Ultra and plugging it on a different TV screen might also help.
