Chromecast connection speed is low.

My problem is very similar to this one:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Chromecast-with-Google-TV-wired-speed-15Mbps-while...

I have a stable internet connection at home. All my devices work fine. My routers are FritzBox.
My Provider offers me 500 Mbps download speed and 25 Mbps upload speed.
All my computers and laptops connected to the router via LAN cable show this speed when I run the speed test. Laptops connected to the router via WiFI show speed 200-400Mbs depending on the distance from the router.

Few days ago I bought a new Chromecast TV 4k.
When I connect it through WiFi (placing 1 m from the router) speed test shows ~30-50 Mbps download.
My laptop at the same position shows 300~400 Mbps

when I connect Chromecast to the router via LAN cable using this LAN adapter https://www.amazon.de/dp/B09MQDWP6H it shows speed ~80Mbs, the same time my laptop using the same LAN adapter shows 500Mbs.

Could you please help?
Thank you!

Hi DmitryB,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. The Chromecast device doesn’t really need that much bandwidth. The requirement to play 4K content is at least 20 Mbps. If you’re getting more than that with a stable connection, then it’s good. Are you experiencing lag, buffering, skips, etc.? These are the issues concerning slow internet connections. If not, then it’s working as intended. But if you’re experiencing issues, let us know so we can work on it.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Kimy,

Thank you very much for your help.

I have my personal PC with a DLNA server on it. I make BlueRay rip off the movie in high quality and watch them on TV using Google chromecast TV device. I do want to use a blu-ray player.

Some films have a huge bitrate: 2.5 hours length film takes 90 Gb on the disk. That is about 80 Mbps bit rate.

Any of my TVs can not handle that. Even my brand new Samsung GQ85QN90CATXZG having trouble to play this movie as TV also has a LAN connection not more than 100Mbps. Or maybe something is wrong with the software. I don't know exactly why.

My hope was that chromecast can play video with a big bitrate. But in fact it doesn't. Ether network speed is not enough ether software/hardware problem. I tried with Kodi, MX Player and VLC player.

The price of 66 EUR I paid for it is not a big deal, but anyway I will probably return it to the seller under 30 days free return.

Thank you very much for the assistance.

Dmitry.

Hello DmitryB,

Thanks for the reply. If it’s a file saved on your computer, try to cast it using Google Chrome. Follow the steps here: How to cast using Google Chrome. I hope this helps. Let us know if you have questions.

Kimy

Hi Kimy,

Thank you very much for your help.

Thi approach you suggested has few downsided.

1) 4K pictures with sound casted with significant delays. Chrome tab casting fits for static pictures like web pages only.

2) That means I need to start and control video from my computer which is in another room.

My goal is to control everything from one chromecast remote.

Probably better to buy one more computer and put it near the TV. In this case I do not need chromecast at all.

Dmitry.

Hi Dmitry,

Understood. The Chromecast with Google TV has innate apps that you can play, while external means can be done via casting. You can cast using the Chrome browser for Windows and Mac computers or cast-enabled apps on iOS or Android smartphones and tablets. That is how the device is intended to work; some users explore other ways of using it similar to how you try to use it. For features that are not available, I suggest that you send feedback via Settings > Help and Feedback. Let us know if you have other questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
