Chromecast remote losing connection - again!

Hello,

My previous post (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Remote-losing-connection-very-ofter/td-p/302989) has been closed due to inactivity, but my issue persists.

Trying to summarize it up:

- sometimes, after being idle, the remote stops working; this happened from the very beginning (november 2022)
- I can use the Home App to control the Chromecast, and I can see that the remote is no longer connected; it's impossible to pair it until rebooting the Chromecast
- after rebooting, I can pair the remote again, until next time
- unpairing/re-pairing forcibly the remote seemed to solve the issue for a few days, but it happened three time in the last week!
- I have bluetooth earphones too, and they work fine

So It's quite obvious that in my case the cuplrit is the remote itself and it needs to be replaced!

I've had to reboot my chromecast to fix the remote every 2 weeks for over a year. In my case it stops controlling the tv before it stops controlling the chromecast

So you didn't find a solution yet?

I've read about other people having similar issues and they solved getting a replacement.

It's not normal you have to reboot the chromecast or go through the pair/unpair/repair thing

Not a complete solution no. Frankly the only reason I'm on these forums is because I've got googles complete ecosystem and it's nothing but bugs anymore. But that's another topic, with the chromecast specifically the android 12 update and a factory reset did seem to help. Before that I had to fight with the remote more than once a week. I'm assuming it was locking up due to there not being enough resources (I'm sure you've noticed Google seriously short changed the storage on these). The android 12 update had a lot of resource saving tweaks that has kept my chromecast with around 500mb of free storage vs 0. Frankly we needed a pro model not this budget model they released last year. 

Sorry, I don't agree about your last sentence! The device is supposed to work accordingly to its hw limitations, otherwise there's obviously something wrong.

Previously I used an Amazon Firestick (first edition) which was even more "basic" but it never missed a beat. Frankly, I'm very disappointed by this new Chromecast.

I'm having the same issues and mine is only 4 days old. 

 

Right now the remote will work on my tv volume etc but not the Chromecast itself.  

 

It's so frustrating

@R89B, Thanks for posting. Have you had the chance to try the steps Jennifer provided in the previous thread? If not, here are the steps again:

 

  1. Plug in your Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV.
  2. Reboot your TV and Wi-Fi router.
  3. Remove and replace the batteries on your Chromecast Voice Remote.
  4. Reset your Chromecast Voice Remote.
  5. Reset your Chromecast with Google TV (HD).
