I’ve had Google TV for about three weeks now everything was working fine till about two days ago. My Google assistant is not responding at all eight of my TVs, which all have Chromecast/Google TV. My son also has Google TV in a different location and his is stopped working. Also, this Hass to be something on their end. Need help. Tried everything from resetting

Same problem here. Control button does work, even try with my phone but the assistant won't listen.

It must to be something on the Google TV end that’s not working correctly with the Assistant. I have this exact same problem. I wish they would look into this and fix it. It was working okay. Must be a glitch somewhere. Glad it is just not me and my sons account.

There are other threads talking about the same issue and a bug ticket was issued. I also created a support ticket yesterday.

I am still experiencing the issue. The microphone does respond when initiating with “hey Google” however, it does not take the action like turning on or off the TV

Hi JLTampa,
Thanks for posting here. There was a bug related to this issue, as you can read in this thread. The bug has been fixed, and we’re monitoring those who are still experiencing it. There are users who already confirmed that it worked, but then some reported back that it happened again, while there are users who didn’t get theirs fixed by the latest patch fix.
The nature of the bug is that when you initiate the Google Assistant by pressing and holding the button on the remote, it waits for you to speak the command, and as you say it, it either registers what it heard from you directly on the TV screen but will not react as if it didn’t hear anything, or it would not register anything you said at all as if it didn’t hear you talking. Is this what you’re experiencing? If not, kindly give us more details.
Regards,
Kimy

Hi Kimy,
Thanks for the response! Yes, you understand correctly the issue I am having. Whether I press the remote button or simply speak “hey Google” to trigger my TVs Google Assistant directly, the same occurs. It hears and registers what I speak, but it doesn’t follow through with the command. We mainly speak “Hey Google” to primarily turn on or turn off the TV. This has worked for years, but all of a sudden stopped working around a month or so ago. Thx again!

Hello JLTampa,
Thanks for the reply. Now that we have confirmed that this is indeed related to the bug, I just want to clarify something. Is this a Chromecast with Google TV device? Or is this a branded TV with built-in Google Assistant, Chromecast, and/or Google TV?
Since this has been happening for a month now, the update with a patch fix for this bug may have been pending on your device or TV. Have you checked if there’s an available update? If there is, I suggest you update it. If not, performing a factory reset for a full clean-up usually forces the update during the re-setup.
We’ll move on to the next course of action once you’ve done this. Keep us posted.
Warmly,
Kimy

Kimy,
I have a Sony TV with built-in Google Assistant. There are no pending software updates…all is up to date (I have auto-updates on). Would a factory reset do anything given I am already up to date with software updates (according to my Sony TV)?
Thanks again!

Hi JLTampa,
Thanks for the details. If you know how to do it, then you can try. We don’t normally suggest users do a factory reset on their third-party TVs with built-in Google features, especially if they don’t know how. We refer them to the TV manufacturer to avoid any problems. After all, if there really is an issue with it, they’re the ones who can process the replacement. Also, Google updates for software, patch fixes, etc. still have to go through with their manufacturer updates.
You can try, or you can contact Sony for more information. Let us know how it goes.

Kimy

Thank again Kimy for all your insights/suggestions.
By the way, one other bit of info I just realized that makes this even more bizarre is that my Google Assistant will respond/act to turning up or down volume, it just won’t respond to turning on or off the TV. Baffling!

Hello JLTampa,
Have you contacted Sony? A factory reset or manufacturer’s update may fix that as well. Let us know if there’s any improvement.
Best,
Kimy
