Right and Left arrows not working on chromecast remote OR Google TV/Home apps

My remote stopped working today. I changed batteries and still nothing. After searching online I tried resetting using the Google TV app. This is where I realized it wasn't the remote as I also couldn't use the side arrows on the app. The up and down arrows work.

I've had this chromecast for a few years now and have never had problems.

Any suggestions that aren't the insulting "DiD YoU tRy ReSeTTiNg iT?"

Hello @Useless_Forum,

Thanks for reaching out to the community, and I also thank you for posting about your TV remote. I definitely understand your concern about your remote, and I will be more than happy to help with the following steps below:

I understand your frustration, especially since you've already tried some troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional things you can try to fix the non-functional right and left arrows on your Chromecast remote and the Google TV/Home apps:

Advanced Troubleshooting:

Check for system updates: An outdated Chromecast system might be causing the issue. Follow these steps to check for updates:

  1. Go to your Google TV settings.
  2. Select "System" and then "About."
  3. Look for "System Update" and install any available updates.

Restart Chromecast in Safe Mode: Booting in safe mode temporarily disables third-party apps that might be conflicting with the system. Here's how: the method might differ slightly depending on your Chromecast model.

  1. Unplug your Chromecast from the power source.
  2. Hold down the "Volume Down" button on the remote while plugging the Chromecast back in.
  3. Keep holding the button until you see the Chromecast boot screen.
  4. If the arrows work in safe mode, the issue might be with a recently installed app. Try uninstalling any recently added apps to see if that resolves the problem.
  5. To exit safe mode, simply restart your Chromecast normally.

I hope this helps!

Helio.
