Automations not reachable

Nes58

Since a few days the Google Home app Automations via Web is showing a blank page. On my pixel 7 the Google Home app shows a "cannot connect" message at the Automations tab.

The already written automations are randomly working with no real connection with the actual devices.

Can someone please tell me how to resolve this problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks..

Hi Nes58,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you've been experiencing inconveniences with Google Home Automations since a few days ago. Specifically, the web interface is displaying a blank page, and on your Pixel 7, the automations tab in the Google Home app is showing a 'cannot connect' error message. I see your existing automations are randomly working with no real connection with your current devices. I know how difficult it is when some automations don't work as expected. I'm here to help! To gather some more details, I'd like to ask the following questions:

  • Have you made any recent changes to your Google Home setup, network, or devices?
  • Are you using the same Google account on both the web interface and your Pixel 7?
  • Have you tested if your automations work using Google Assistant?

Please let me know if you have any other information; that would be helpful.

Best regards,
Juan

Hi, Juan,

Thank you so much for replying to my post.I have been struggling to find a solution with no result. The only undesirable solution is to migrate my account to a new one and start over. But with 18 cams, nest aware, nest wifi pro's, nest protect's and lots of other devices, thats not the way i like to proceed.

Further more, i have about 100 automations with no backup, stupid I know.

To answer your questions:

- In the last weeks I have added a few nest protect's, they were added in the Nest app and via Public preview also added in the Google Home app. No problems there.

- Recently i only had one Google account and this was/is the only account used on my Pixel and the web interface.

- The voice activated automations, via the Nest hub, seems to be working fine, a very few of the event driven automations are working, but the largest part is unresponsive. Sometimes an automation starts executing without the appropriate device starter, of course on not so appropriate times.

The first  blank page appeared when I was editing a quite large script via the web interface and after that the first "cannot connect" message  appeared on my phone.

I appreciate your help and if you need more information, I will be here.

Regards,

Nes

Hi Nes58,

Thanks for following up! I appreciate the detailed information you shared. Migrating accounts might be a significant undertaking. Let's look closely at that:

  • When you added the Nest Protects, did you notice any unusual behavior or warnings during the setup process?
  • Could you please confirm if all of your Nest devices are on the same Wi-Fi network that the Nest Wifi Pro is broadcasting?
  • When you say the web interface displayed a blank page when editing a large script, could you describe the script's complexity?

Please keep me posted. I look forward to your response.

Regards,
Juan

Hi again, Juan,

Migrating my account is centainly not the preferred option here, so thanks again for reaching out and find a solution.

During the installation of the Nest Protect's there were no glitches, everything went very smoothly, even better than I expected. Not a single error or warning. The test I ran afterwarts showed "All Good" and testalarms with voice were heard via every Protect.

I only have one Wi-Fi network (mesh with multiple Nest Wifi pro's, all cable connected). I have checked this again and they are on the same network.

The script I was working on was, as mentioned, quite large. I have no access at the moment but it contained about 36 starters, about 40 conditions with combined and/or constructions and a handfull of actions.

I am not aware of any limits but I do know I experienced problems with opening the log files within the script. Message: logfile cannot be opened. (The logfile shows o.a. date/time of execution of this script). I can't remember after how many stored automations this occurred.

I am no expert on the Google infrastructure, but it seems that somewhere inside the space allocated to my automations, something went wrong and that space needs to be reset, reallocated or (I hope not) reformatted.

The Google Home app has on every page an option to leave feedback, including a copy of the current screen. Only the error screen when I try to access Automations does not have it. It seems an error Google was not expecting. (Neither was I).

I appreciate the time and effort helping me.

Regards,

Nes
