Beyond frustrated

I need to vent.

I used to think Google Home was a stagnant piece of s***. But I'm increasingly convinced that it's capabilities are actually sliding backwards.

I have 36 wifi lights in my home that I control through the buggy app on my Android device.

While tweaking my routines the app gets so laggy that it eventually locks up and I have to reboot my phone to continue using it.

Google Home frequently says, "Sorry, I don't understand" to commands that it had no problem executing 2 years ago.

I just discovered that if I invite someone else to my household they can't see any of my routines as they are all set to 'Personal' with no way to switch them to 'Household' without recreating them from scratch.

If a device is offline it keeps telling me "____ isn't available right now. You might want to try setting it up again" ad nauseam. It should only convey this one or twice a day at most. I don't need to hear it every time a routine runs.

I feel like I'm sitting in a lukewarm bathtub trying to figure out whether or not to get out or hope for more hot water.

It's the sunken cost fallacy: I put so much time, energy and money into developing my routines, that I'm letting it drive me absolutely f****** insane when really I should just give up and go back to using light switches.

Thanks for a steaming pile of crap migraine-inducing experience, Google.

To think I used to be a fanboy who told people, "Everything Google touches turns the gold". Seems like a different lifetime now. Even your search engine is starting to really suck.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We hear you — we can understand why you feel that way. For your routine concern are you still able to control your lights using their native app? Try to relink the light then create the routine once more. Observe if it will make a difference.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Juni
