Can we control our home appliances using our Android smart phone away from home?

Can we control our home appliances using an Android smart phone, when we are away from home? Also we have to monitor the current status of our appliances through that phone. Is it possible?

Yes you can control devices within the Google Home app from other WiFi or mobile networks.

It depends on the appliances and their capabilities on if you can monitor them, for example you can view Nest cameras while away.
