Connecting Nest Cam (battery) to WIFI network (via Google Home app/Sagemcom modem)

Dear community,

2 weeks ago bought 2 Cams and tries multiple times to connect them via Google Home app to my WIFI network (Sagemcom modem). It says 'connected' in the end, but immediately gives the information that it is not connected and I should start over again. Could it be a modem issue as I have read on the internet in several posts. If someone has the solution, please responds. Regards Pat

Hi @Pat2024!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing when trying to set up your Nest Cam Battery. I can see that during the setup you are reaching the Connected to WiFi screen, but some seconds later it disconnects, and you are unable to complete the setup process. No worries, help is here:

In order to discard that the issue could be related to your router, you can check some settings on it. Here are the most important recommended Wi-Fi network and router settings for use with Nest products. For more details, refer to the sections below.

  • Enable 802.11 b/g/n if you have an 802.11 ac router.
  • Set your Wi-Fi router's DHCP lease time to at least 2 hours.
  • Turn on your router's Power Save Mode (PSM) if you have a Nest thermostat.
  • Enable IPv6 if you have a Nest Protect.
  • On your Wi-Fi router, turn on multicast if you're adding additional Nest devices.

Once you have changed the settings on your router, I will suggest you try pairing your device again.

Please check the following articles: Update Wi-Fi network and router settings and Troubleshoot Nest camera and doorbell setup messages

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

Hi Daniel,

I have a sagemcom modem and all seems to be OK. I also have had suggestions via the community of my ISP but sofar no luck. Will try again and I will contact the ISP (did not do this since in fact all the rest is working and I also have multiple connected items linke google nest min, printer, hue lamps, etc). Thanks for the response sofar. Regards Patrick

Hi @Pat2024!

Thanks for your reply.
I can see that you will contact your ISP looking for further assistance and hoping to get your Nest Cam Battery connected. If after contacting them and checking all the settings on your router it is still not connecting, you can reply to me, and I’m going to be more than happy to give you further assistance.

In the meantime, you can try the next troubleshooting steps:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Move the camera closer to the router.
  • Restart the router.
  • Factory reset the Nest Cam Battery.
  • Try connecting the camera again.

In this article you can check the steps to factory reset the Nest Cam Battery: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell

I’ll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Daniel.

Hi Daniel, did all that was possible still not working. ISP says they cannot help and refer to their community (also help/advise there did not yet work). I will try the other camera since that I did not yet do. Will inform you and in worst case I have to see if I can return the camera's to Google. Regards Patrick

Dear community members, an update from me: I finally managed to connect the Google Cams (tried it today):

Router Settings: Simply UPnP open, both 2.4 and 5 GHz with optimization, both IPv4 & 6 enabled.

What didn't work: Connecting via the Google Home app on my iPhone SE (2020)

What did work: Connecting via the Google Home app on my wife’s Samsung S24 (although we had to try a few times for one of them, but it worked eventually)

In summary: Could it be an Apple-Google compatibility issue, or is my iPhone SE too old? Anyway, for those with similar problems, consider whether it might be your iPhone or Android phone (try both if you have them at home)
