Dear Google,
I’ve been a loyal Google Home user for years, with 10 Nest Minis and a Nest Hub integrated into my smart home. I’ve invested heavily in your ecosystem, including switches, lights, and other devices that run seamlessly with Google Assistant.
However, the decision to lock Gemini behind a paid subscription has made me reconsider. As an Amazon Prime subscriber, I now have access to Alexa’s advanced features—many of which are free or included with my membership. Given that most of my smart devices are compatible with both platforms, I’m preparing to transition fully to Alexa.
This isn’t a decision I take lightly. I’ve appreciated the reliability and integration of Google Home, but charging for core AI functionality feels like a step backward. If Google were to offer Gemini features without a subscription—especially to long-time users—I would gladly stay.
Please consider the impact this shift is having on your user base. I’m not alone in feeling pushed away by paywalls.
Sincerely,
Feeling Betrayed

Like Alexa I would say there would be different levels of AI accessible to everyone.
I'll be sticking to the basic and free Google Assistant or Gemini if available.
I don't know why you need to do the full switch as currently there are advantages and disadvantages with both systems.
Google doesn't require unique names for every device...
