Correct settings to maintain a cool bedroom at night

Harriflex16

During the cold evenings our temperature choice is set to 21.5 in order to get the pump to circulate. At 9:30 it changes to 18 in order to keep the bedroom cool. However, annoyingly the full heat starts up during our sleep time in order to maintain an average temperature. Whereas our choice would be for the Heating to come on at 06:30. Can I force it into Eco mode just at night?

Hi Harriflex16,

Thanks for reaching out — I'm sorry for the delay.

Have a look at this guide:

For Nest Thermostat 2020: (You can hold the temperature of the Eco preset and keep the temperature schedule.)

  1. Open the Home app > touch and hold your thermostat's tile.
  2. Make sure your thermostat is in Heat, Cool, or Heat • Cool mode before you try to start a temperature hold.
  3. Tap Hold temperature.
  4. Select the Current temp or the temperature preset you want your thermostat to hold.
Note: If the temperature you want doesn't appear, change your thermostat's current temperature to the one you want to hold. When you reopen the hold temperature settings, you'll be able to select the temperature you've just set.
  5. Select the end time you want the temperature to hold for.
Note: If you're using the Eco preset, you can also choose None to hold the temperature indefinitely until you end the hold. For other presets, your thermostat can hold the temperature for up to 24 hours.
  6. Tap Start to begin the temperature hold.
Note: If you want to make changes to the temperature but there's a hold on the temperature, the app or thermostat will tell you that you need to end the hold first.

For Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E: (You can manually switch to Eco Temperatures whenever you want. If you’ve set up the Google Assistant, you can also tell it to switch your thermostat to Eco Temperatures.)

  1. Open the Nest app > select the thermostat you want to manage.
  2. Select Eco.
  3. Tap Start Eco. If there's more than one thermostat, select the thermostats you want to set to this mode.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hi, thanks for enquiry. Do these instructions apply to the 3rd generation Learning Thermostat? I haven’t managed to see the “Hold” instruction that you mention. My issue is we basically have two settings and it keeps switching on automatically at around 4am when we want the rooms to stay at the cool setting of 18 degrees. It should according to my schedule switch on to 21.5 degrees at 06:15 am. It is obviously using a preheat which we do not require.

Hey Harriflex16,

It's me again! You can manually switch your Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E to Eco mode in the Nest app by selecting your thermostat's Temperature mode option.

Also, you can take a look at this guide to set Eco on your actual thermostat:

  1. Press your thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Eco.
  4. Select the temperature you want. If your thermostat controls heating you’ll see Heat to. If it controls cooling, you’ll also see Cool to.
  5. Press the thermostat ring to select the temperature you want to change. Turn the ring to adjust it, then press again to set it.

Thanks,

Jenelyn
