Doorbell press missing from home automation options

Hi,

I created an automation for when the doorbell is pressed that it notifies me via my speakers and stuff but I wanted to tinker with a different automation, and now the doorbell press 'starter' isn't there as an option anymore.

I saw another thread that said to delete the app and reinstall, but this hasn't fixed it.

Any ideas?

Hi fearLess2,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand you’re having trouble creating a new automation for your Nest Doorbell, even though you have an existing one set up to notify your speaker when the doorbell is pressed. However, the 'doorbell is pressed' starter option is missing from the app. I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken. I’m glad to help.

For better assistance, please answer the following questions:

  • What model of Nest Doorbell do you have? (Here is a helpful article to identify the type of Nest Doorbell)
  • Are you trying to create a Personal or a Household Automation?
  • Could you provide a screenshot of the options you see when trying to select a starter in the Google Home app?

Please keep me posted on your findings.

Regards,

Byron

I have the nest doorbell with battery version

And it's just an automation in the google home app on the main screen

I don't know how to share a screenshot in here but the only options I have are when I select the front doorbell as the device:

- Detects event

- Detects motion

- On or Off

Only those 3 options exist, I used to have "doorbell press" as a starter but it isnt there anymore

Hi fearLess2,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate all the detailed information. I'm sorry you couldn't upload a picture.

Based on your answers, please follow these recommendations:

Step 1: Edit routine.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automations.
  3. Choose a Routine to edit.
  4. Choose the Routine you wish to edit.
  5. Deactivate the existing routine (Custom Routines Only): Toggle the Activate Routine to "off".
  • Note: This helps us test if the options reappear when creating a new Custom Routine.

Step 2: Force close the Google Home app.

  1. Locate the app settings on your device (Android or iOS).
  2. Tap Force Stop (or Force Close).
  3. Select Clear Cache and Clear Data.
  4. Reopen the Google Home app and sign back in if prompted.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Byron
