Google Nest Cam Battery - I need to reinstall the camera every time I recharge

NicolasMMM

Hello,

I have a problem with my Google Nest Cam Battery.

When the battery is completely empty and I put the camera to charge, the light remains white after complete charge.

In my application, I can read "device turned off - fully charged".

But I do not find the way to turn on the camera. This seems very strange to me since the camera is recognized, and the battery is recognized as charged, but it is impossible to have the green light.

The only thing I have found is to delete the camera of my application, press the small button on the camera for 5 seconds, and reinstall the camera.

But, when I do that, I lose 10 minutes to reinstall it, and I lose my 30-days video history. It's very unpleasant.

Is there a way to turn on a camera after charging when it was empty (change from white light to green light ?), or is it necessary to charge it before the battery is completely empty?

Thank you for your help,

Nicolas MMM

Hi NicolasMMM,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that your Google Nest Cam battery needs to be reinstalled every time you recharge the battery. Thank you for sharing with us important details such as the behavior of the camera when the battery is completely empty and you put it to charge. Also, it is important for us to know the error message you get from the app saying "device turned off—fully charged." I also appreciate you letting me know the troubleshooting steps you have taken to resolve this inconvenience by yourself. I understand how frustrating it is to lose 10 minutes to reinstall the Google Nest Cam Battery and lose 30 days of video history. But don't worry; it is my pleasure to assist you in finding a solution for this inconvenience.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

Could you please let me know if the Google account shown in your Google Home app, at the top right, is the one linked to your camera?

Could you please verify in the Google Home app the battery state?

Can you confirm whether power connectors are facing up or down when in normal use (wall socket adaptor and Pogo connector)?

Are there any signs of debris, corrosion, or damage in the wall adapter's pins, the Pogo connector’s pins, or sockets?

Could you confirm which cable you are using to charge the camera?

Regarding your consultation about the necessity to charge the Google Nest Cam battery before the battery is completely empty, let me tell you that it is not necessary to wait until the battery is empty; you can recharge the battery before it gets empty.

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna

Hello,

There is no problem with the five points you have listed.

As I said before, when the battery is completely empty and I put the camera to charge, the light of the camera is white during the charge but remains white after complete charge. So it is impossible to turn on the camera after a complete charge : the only thing I can do is to reinstall the camera, and so I have the green light in the camera.

Thank you for yout help,

Hi NicolasMMM,

Thanks for your kind response. I appreciate this information to have a better understanding of the experience that you’re going through with your Google Nest Cam battery and provide you with better assistance.

Based on the information you shared with us, I can recommend trying to factory reset your Google Nest Cam battery, but before performing it, please consider the following information:

  1. Your camera's personalized settings will revert to default settings.
  2. Your camera's entire video history and snapshots will be deleted. Once your video history and snapshots are deleted, they're gone forever. They cannot be recovered. We do not keep backups. If you want to save any video footage before you perform the factory reset, create video clips or timelapses and download the files to your phone or computer.
  3. Your camera will forget the Wi-Fi network name and password, and will be “Offline” in the app.

For cameras with 1st gen Nest Aware subscriptions

If your camera has a 1st gen Nest Aware subscription and you plan to get rid of your camera or add it to a new account, cancel your subscription before you factory reset. Canceling the subscription will remove subscription-only features like Activity Zones and delete the entire video history.

If you plan to continue using your camera or doorbell with the same account, you do not need to cancel the subscription before you factory reset.

Here you have the instructions to perform the factory reset:

  1. Plug the camera into a power source.
  2. Locate the reset button on the back of the camera. The reset button on the Nest Cam (battery) is located on the back of the camera head.
  3. Press and hold the button:
    1. At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you'll hear a countdown tone.
    2. At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the camera starts the factory reset, and you'll hear a confirmation tone.
  4. Release the button. Your camera will restore to its factory settings.
  5. After the factory reset, your camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.
  6. To remove it from the app, open the app, tap on the device, then tap Settings (the gear icon), then select “Remove device,” then tap “Confirm.”

When you finish with the factory reset process, it will be necessary to set it up again.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
