Home Routine Playlist

I’m trying to setup a Routine to play a YouTube music playlist I created across multiple speakers I created a group for. I have set up commands to set all the speakers to the same volume and the last command to play the playlist. It tells me that I need to setup voice recognition and won’t play the playlist (voice recognition is setup on all devices).

if I change the routine to just play music across the speaker group it works. If I ask Google to play the playlist across the speaker group it works. Why won’t the playlist work as a routine command??

Hi Danimal11,

Warmest welcome from the Community team.

By the way, thank you for doing all those steps before posting, that way we can narrow things down however, I still need you to do some steps for us to find the resolution. Go back to your routines settings, then add action and try creating your own. Type the command that has worked when you play your playlist and tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan_A, I have created my own action.

When I have the "Play rock music on the entire house" the whole routine works. (entire house is my speaker group).

When i change the action to "Play The Morning Glory playlist on the entire house" is when I get the error telling me to setup the voice recognition. I copied this language directly from my history, because when I tell Google "Play The Morning Glory playlist on the entire house" it works. For some reason the action in the routine doesn't work.

Hello again,

I hear you! Let me get more information on this. What Google Nest speakers are added to your speaker group? Is it still having the behavior where the routine involving your playlist you've set doesn't work? Could you do a sequential reboot starting with your WiFi router/modem followed by your speakers. Restarting your phone might also help.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Danimal11,

Appreciate the effort! What are the devices set on your speaker group? When you created a routine, did you see the speaker group name and chose it with all the devices attached to it? Also, from what country are you from and what is the model of your phone?

Check out this link for multi-room control on your speakers and this guide about routines. If you can, try to recreate the speaker group and your routines.

Best regards,

Dan

Devices: 2 mini speakers, 2 wifi hubs

Creating the routine: no didn't see the speaker group as an option, just the speakers

Country: US

Phone: iPhone

The video on routines you sent me too is the one I used to try and set up the routine in question.

Hi Danimal11,

Thanks for the information and the effort to take those necessary steps. We might need to use the "Play rock music on the entire house" routine for now since setting the routines to play your playlist is not yet applicable.

Thanks for the follow up Dan_A. Just to confirm, what you're telling me is that routines don't have the ability to play a playlist on a speaker group?

Seems like it should be an easy fix, tell Sundar to get on it! I guess my Youtube music premium subscription will have to wait until we achieve some basic functionality... Thanks for your help Dan_A

Hello there,

I hear you! But if you can try to have a YouTube Music subscription don't let this hinder you. You can still enjoy playing music with your speaker group and playing your playlist. Better yet, why don't we do that since a Premium subscription is needed if you want to play a specific song or artist, including your own playlists.

Dan

Hi there,

Chiming in to see if you still need assistance with this. Hope the previous post helped. Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we’ll be locking the thread.

Best,

Hi Princess, as you can see reading the thread nothing was solved and the basic functionality of playing a playlist, on a speaker group, with a routine is not available.

While I'm sure AI will take over the world at some point and we will be slaves to Skynet (Google), I'm not too worried today since playing certain music seems to be a struggle.
