Use nest hub gen2 to improve wifi reach

Quikmark2
Community Member

Hi. I have a Nest wifi router and 3 wifi points, but still a weak signal in some areas at home.

According to Google, my 2 Nest Hubs (gen2) are Thread Border Routers.

How can I use the nest hubs to improve my nest wifi mesh network ?
I was hoping the Nest hub will automatically become part of the Nest Wifi mesh using Thread.

Is there a way to monitor which items are connected using Thread ?

appreciate any help.

Hi Quikmark2,

Thanks for reaching out.

You might find these info helpful on setting up your Nest Wifi points:

Matter and Thread support for a more connected and compatible home

  • Nest Wifi Pro has been updated to support Matter, the new universal standard that simplifies smart home compatibility and setup. Nest Wifi Pro can act as a hub for Matter to connect and control your Google Home and other Matter-enabled devices, so your smart home is faster to set up and more responsive and reliable than ever. Learn more about Matter.
  • Thread is a wireless mesh technology, designed to make your smart devices more connected and reliable. It helps extend the overall strength, capability, and reach of your home network. Nest Wifi Pro has a Thread border router built in to act as a hub, making it easy to add Thread devices to your network while leveraging its powerful antennas to extend the reach and coverage of your Thread network. Learn more about Nest devices with Thread.

Easy to set up, easy to manage

You can quickly set up Nest Wifi Pro and manage it in the Google Home app along with your other connected devices. If you already have a Nest Wifi or Google Wifi system, to set up Nest Wifi Pro you'll have to remove the previous network from your Google Home structure, or set up a different Google Home structure. After the new network is set up, automatic updates to Nest Wifi Pro will give you new features and help keep your network secure.

Google smarts for a faster, simpler, more reliable Wi-Fi

Nest Wifi Pro uses network insights to automatically optimize your network's performance. For example, it'll automatically prioritize video calls to help keep them smooth and consistent. Nest Wifi Pro can also adapt and account for when your internet service provider (ISP)'s speeds dip unexpectedly.

Wi-Fi issues are proactively scanned for and diagnosed, and Nest Wifi Pro can even fix common network problems on its own so you don't need to. It'll let your know if a simple fix, such as a new Ethernet cable, can improve your network's performance.

Safe and secure Wi-Fi

You can create a guest network and share your password from the Google Home app. You can also decide which devices to prioritize for faster speeds, and run speed tests to understand the performance of your network and device connectivity.

Family Wi-Fi lets you set schedules to manage screen time, restrict certain kinds of adult content, and pause Wi-Fi for specific devices whenever you want.

Hope this helps.

Princess
