Viewing options for nest cameras

CVI89DK

I have a question about the web interface.

I have 6 nest cameras with constant power and I have a nest doorbell battery.

In the google home web interface it is possible to see a live feed from the cameras which is nice.

Since I have that number of cameras, I cannot see them all on my screen at once, which is what I want.

My questions is then;

1. Is it possible to resize the camera feeds of the individual cameras to my liking? e.g. I don't need my doorbell feed to be as large as it is, so I would like to resize it to make it smaller

2. Is it possible to rearrange the feeds to my liking? e.g. I would like to move the doorbell feed to the end, and have feeds of my door and driveway as the first feeds.

3. [NOTE: this is a nice-to-have and not a need-to-have] I saw another post in here where a member asked if it would be possible to have a feed "pop out" or getting larger if movement was detected. e.g. If all camera feeds are the same size, and movement is detected in the driveway, the driveway feed enlarges to indicate movement.

Hi CVI89DK,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your thoughts with the Community. I’d be happy to help you with your questions. Let’s check them out.

While it isn’t possible to resize the camera feed, rearrange them, or have the feed “pop-out” if movement was detected, here are the things that you can do at this time.

If you have more than one Nest camera, you can choose how to view your cameras on your browser screen.

  • To view the live feed of multiple cameras, select Camera grid view in the upper right.
  • To view a list of all your cameras' names and the live feed of one camera, select Camera list view in the upper right.

To save power, the live video stream will stop automatically:

  • Live video from battery-powered Nest cameras and doorbells stops after 5 minutes.
  • Live video from wired Nest cameras and doorbells stops after 12 hours.

To start the live stream again, tap Watch live.

When you first sign into Google Home for web, the screen shows you the live feed of all the Nest cameras in your home.

For each camera on the screen, you can also view:

  • Name and location
  • Status: On, Off, Offline or Idle (battery-powered cameras only)

To control a single camera:

  • At the top of the camera's feed, turn it on or off .
  • To start an idle camera's live stream, select Live video.

To turn all cameras on or off:

  1. At the top right, select More .
  2. Select Turn all cameras on or Turn all cameras off.

Hi Lance,

Thank you for the reply.
I am well aware that I can choose how to view the camera feeds, but since I have 5 cameras and a doorbell currently, it does not all fit in my screen at once, so I wanted to be able to rearrange the camera feeds so I would be able to see the ones I find most relevant.

I do not have any of those options in the upper right corner when viewing my cameras on the website.  Mychoices are 3 vertical dots which turn the cameras on or off and in very uppermost right corner 3 more vertical dots for help, send feedback or About Google Home.  That's it.  I woulld really like to rearrange mycameras.  I have 4 cameras and instead of 3 on top ot the other 2 I have 3 across on top and one below, greatly limiting their size on my screen.

Hi folks,

Thanks for chiming in, Lance.

@muskyboy, if you're using the Google Home app on the website, the options mentioned above may not be available in that specific interface. The options described are typically found in the mobile app version of Google Home. To rearrange your cameras in the Google Home app on the website, you can try the following steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app on the website and navigate to the "Cameras" section.
  2. Look for an "Edit" or "Manage" button/icon within the camera view or in the settings/options menu for cameras.
  3. Click on the "Edit" or "Manage" button/icon, and you should see options to rearrange or move your cameras.
  4. Drag and drop the cameras to the desired positions or follow the instructions provided in the editing interface to rearrange them.

If you don't see any options to rearrange the cameras within the Google Home app on the website, it's possible that the feature may not be available in that version of the app. In that case, you may need to use the mobile app version of Google Home to rearrange your cameras.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
