You can’t just dump support for hardware!

I have a GEN 1 Nest thermostat and I convinced a lot of other people to buy one too when I released my review video that got over 600k views! (Nest Thermostat Review). Now your app says it no longer support gen 1 nest and you didn’t even release a last update to free the device so that users could still control it directly via their LAN or add it to Home Assistant. This should be illegal honestly for companies to bait and switch people like this. The new Nest Thermostat offers nothing in any that this gen 1 doesn’t already have.

I suspect that is why you guys bricked it to force people to buy again. I honestly would like a refund at this point if you’re not going to unlock my device so I can still communicate with it via local LAN IP address.

It’s hard not to feel burned when hardware that still works gets sidelined by a software decision. People invest in ecosystems expecting longevity, not a countdown timer. Even a clearer roadmap or longer transition window would go a long way toward rebuilding trust.
