1st Gen Nest started blowing cold air on heat mode

I have a 1st gen Nest that started blowing cold air on heat mode. Have done 2 factory resets to no avail. In the past when this has occurred, the factory reset has resolved the issue. The heater seems to be getting power and is turning on when the heat is "on" - but the air that's coming out is cold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, @olitn23!

Thank you for contacting the community. I'm very sorry you're experiencing cool air when your thermostat is set to heat. I understand how important it is to keep your home warm, especially in cold weather. I'm happy to help!

Thank you for taking the time to perform a factory reset and check your system's power supply. To troubleshoot this effectively, please answer the following questions:

  • Do you have a conventional or heat pump system?
    • Conventional System: Typically consists of two pieces of equipment (a furnace and an AC unit).
    • Heat Pump: Handles both heating and cooling with a single unit.
  • Could you please share a photo of your wiring configuration?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Have there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  • Does the issue occur only with heating, or with cooling as well?
  • Are there any error messages displayed?

In the meantime, please ensure all wires are fully inserted. The wires may not be making proper contact with the terminals. Make sure at least ¼ to ½ inch of the copper wire is exposed, straightened, and fully inserted into each required connector. If necessary, strip and reinsert the wires. Strip and fix wires.

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,
