AC blows heat when turned on

Just bought the 3rd generation learning thermostat. When I turn on ac the heat comes on. It's going to be 95 degrees tomorrow. What is going on?

Often this is a problem either with the wiring or the configuration of the thermostat.

If you send a picture of the before wiring with your old thermostat, and wiring with the new, that can be verified with another pair of eyes.

In the thermostat settings verify the equipment is configured properly. Check to make fuel source and equipment type match your actual equipment. Also check to make sure the thermostat "knows" and is configured to match the wiring that you have.

Give this a try.

If your system starts to blow cool air when your Nest thermostat is in Heat mode (or if it blows warm air when its in Cool mode), change the settings for orientation of your heat pump.

  1.  On your thermostat, go to Settings.
  2. Select Equipment.
  3. Select Continue > Continue.
  4. Select Heat Pump.
  5. The Nest Thermostat defaults to an O setting for heat
    pumps.
    • If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    • If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  6. Test your heating and cooling again to make sure the issue is resolved.
