AC compressor runs for 1 minute

Just upgraded to nest and the compressor (outside) only runs for 1 minute then shuts off. After it initially runs for 1 minite, I can hear the compressor run for about 1 second every few minutes The fan (inside HVAC system) runs continuously. I have no C wire. I have yellow wired to Y1, green to G, blue to OB, white to W2 aux, and red to RH. This is a heat pump and HVAC cooling system.

Hi @Prod1013

I'm sorry that you are having some issues with the compressor running only for 1 minute, I know that this behavior could be frustrating however I'll need to gather additional information in order for me to assist you.

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did cooling last work?
    • If newly installed
      1. Check compatibility using the Compatibility Checker tool.
      2. Gather all details of the old thermostat & HVAC system.
      3. Check the make and model of the cooling and heating system, including the make and model for the, fan-coil or air-handler units.
      4. Check if the HVAC system might be using a multi-speed or variable speed fan.
    • If not newly installed, was it working before?
      1. Check for any recent changes to the HVAC system or servicing made.
      2. When was the last maintenance service and cleaning?
      3. Is this the first time you’re calling for cooling this year?
        1. If yes, did heating work without issues in the winter?
  • For Heat Pump:
    • Did you check O/B wire configuration and tried changing the O-wire to B-wire configuration or vice versa?
    • Did you try swapping O/B and G wire on the Nest terminals then test for cooling and heating?
  • Did you  turn off the power to your HVAC system?
    1. Are the breakers turned on?
    2. Did you recently experience a brownout or blackout?
    3. Did you have any construction or maintenance work done on your home?
  • Do you have a photo of your old thermostat?
  • Did your utility company install a box on your HVAC system that turns the system off during high demand (peak) times to save energy?
  • Have you experienced extremely hot weather lately?
    1. Get an idea from the customer about how hot it has been and if this is unusually hot for their area. Refer to https://goo.gle/3m0LN4g for weather information.
    2. Is this the first big temperature drop of the year in their location
  • Do you see a power error code on your thermostat?
  • Have you set up a temperature schedule for your thermostat?
    • If their thermostat is set to turn on or off at specific times, that could be why it's not working when expected. Here's how to turn off a temperature schedule.

Please answer those questions so I can identify better the issue and provide you further assistance.

Regards,

Josh
