ANOTHER Request to make Nest Thermostats compatible with Google Workspace Accounts

PLEASE MAKE NEST THERMOSTATS COMPATIBLE WITH GOOGLE WORKSPACE ACCOUNTS.

I keep reading through forum posts requesting this functionality and posts, articles stating that it might be supported now, with linked instructions for changing settings in the Google Workspace Admin screen to make it function. Only the instructions don't change anything, in fact they refer to a setting that no longer exists, specifically "web and app activity." It seems here to have been done for other Nest devices like the Hub Max. I have tried everything, I have added the app as approved on the Workspace account, tweaked and updated settings, tried a myriad of different ways to set it up, and still a hard block when I try to put the Nest onto my Home account linked to my Workspace domain/email account.

I have about 15 other devices that all link to and operate perfectly on that Workspace account; light switches, light bulbs, a universal remote, a washer, a dryer, a Chromecast Ultra, a Fire TV Cube, Ring cameras, an ASUS router, and many more to come.......all them happily linked, available, working...........except the Google-owned/mfg. Nest. That ONE device is seemingly impossible to make work with Workspace? The "solution" typically offered is to link my Nest to a personal Gmail account, which I have done, so I have ~15 devices on the Home for my Workspace account and have to switch accounts to a separate email account/Home setup where I have just the Nest sitting there by itself and unavailable to any other home devices or family/home contacts. That's not a solution.

This request has now been out there for years, there are countless forum posts, reddit conversations, etc., requesting it, and literally every one gets closed without a resolution, a few lame "will make the development team aware" type responses, but clearly they are aware and CLEARLY they have decided that making customers who purchased a Nest that use Workspace don't at all "Matter".

Speaking of Matter.........now you announce this big improvement with Matter where decides have greater interoperability and compatibility, sorry, not buying it until you can actually listen to customers you already have and fix gaping holes in your current solution, rather than being evasive and offering solutions that aren't really solutions. Why would I believe that I suddenly "Matter" when so many customers have for so long regretted buying a Nest and their issues have fallen on deaf ears?

So, as I look at doing upgrades/additions for home automation (door locks, cameras, more lights, garage, etc.) in the next few months, I have to consider the following:

1. Dump Workspace altogether and all the time and effort put into it to manage our house/family accounts (fortunately I use a personal domain so this wouldn't mean changing all of our email addresses) and move to another system to be able to manage our messaging, storage, backup, devices, domain registrations, etc. Of course this means rebuilding the current Home setup on the new, non-work space accounts. Yay. I have to say, I wouldn't be looking to do this on Gmail and would look into my Microsoft/live.com account to accomplish this.

2. Avoid buying any devices directly/indirectly from Google as you are completely willing to leave me hanging with a device incompatibility that renders it about 60% effective

3. Move away from Home altogether and go completely Alexa (we currently run both for certain things) and aim the upgrade and new purchases on devices that will work with that system.

Hi mtzlblk

Thanks for posting and for explaining thoroughly your experience with this.

Could you access this link and make sure that Web & App Activity is turned on?

Best,

Mel

Hi Mel,

Thank you for following up and for the link.

I checked that setting for my workspace account and it is definitely turned on.

Hi there,

@mtzlblk2, I saw your post and wanted to chime in — I'm sorry for the delay. I just want to follow up if you're still encountering the issue. Please let me know as I'll be willing to assist you from here.

Best,

Jenelyn

Yes, still experiencing this unless something got changed or fixed in terms of the policy to not support Google Workspace account and Nest for Home. Has that changed?
