i have two furnaces and I changed from the Nest gen 2 to Nest gen 4 on both. However, the upstairs furnace fan kicks on and off whenever it feels like it! I put the Nest gen 2 back on, and it works fine! Google sent another Nest gen 4, but the issue persists…help! I actually really like the Nest gen 2 but Google forced me to make the switch

Hi PanameraV,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with your upstairs furnace fan cycling on and off randomly only when you connect your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen). I understand that this situation is inconvenient, especially since it didn't happen with the previous model and the issue continues even after the thermostat replacement. No worries, I can definitely help you with this!

To better investigate this situation, I’d like to ask for the following information:

  • What is the make and model of your HVAC system?
  • Have you received any error messages during the fan activation?
  • When was your last maintenance and cleaning service?
  • Could you please share pictures of your previous and current wiring installations?
  • Can you share your case number ID from your previous interaction with our support team?

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following:

  • If the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) is currently connected, please share a picture of the wiring configuration detected by the system. You can check this by going to Settings > Equipment on the thermostat's screen or in the Google Home app.
  • Check that the wires are fully inserted into the terminals and the connector buttons are securely pushed down. Important: Before touching any wires, turn off the power to your HVAC system at the breaker box.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,
