I have a Nest Learning Thermostat that is at a vacation home. When we're not there, we set it to ECO to save heating costs. Last winter, we had no problem with this. However, this winter the Nest randomly turns off ECO (and follows the temp schedule) after a few days. Based on how ECO works, it shouldn't do this. Not that anyone is going to the house while we're away, but I also have Home/Away turned off.

I have a slightly similar issue where the Nest-E turns on randomly a while after detecting we are away. In Google home app it says a 'touch' was detected (even though there is no chance of this) in the NEst energy usage history it says 'resumed schedule, someone was expected home'. How is it expecting someone home when we are 15 miles away!

The exact same thing happens to me. It was working fine before last year, but recently, a random nest thermostat just goes out of eco mode for no reason. Really annoying and a very expensive problem because the house just starts heating up even though we are not there.

I have turned off touch control and motion sensor for the thermostat in the Google Home app (presence sensing settings). This way it is only using our phone locations for home/away assist. Only a couple of days in but it does seem to have made a difference.

Hi Jake,
I have been using only the phone location detection in the Google Home app (with touch control & motion sensing turned off). This seems to be working fine. The thermostat stayed in Eco mode for the duration of a recent vacation.
Thanks,
Tim
