Was there a software update last night (30 Nov. 2024) or something? I had two different nest devices start behaving badly this morning.
One zone was almost 90° this morning. The thermostat said that it was heating, claimed to be set near 80° though we never set it above 70°, and twisting/pressing wouldn’t change it. Pulling it off the wall at least stopped calling for heat.
When I checked my app to see if there were notifications, I saw four this morning about one nest protect in the house: two “replace batteries soon” 30 min apart then two “replace batteries now”… and then started chirping. When I took the batteries out, one was warm to the touch.
One device failing i’d believe… two failing within hours seems like there’s something going on. Thoughts or suggestions?

Hello @WotWaz,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm truly sorry the Nest thermostat won't turn off the heat and the recent issues with the Nest protect it. I understand your frustration with the recent issues you've experienced. I'm happy to help!
The team would like to learn more about this behavior. When you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you’re finished. We’ll have someone reach out to you via email from there.
Please, keep me posted.
