Forced Obsolescence of Gen 1 & 2 Nest Thermostats

KillWill

I would like to formally escalate an issue with my Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 2. Ya'll recently discontinued all remote and app functionality for this product, effectively removing core “smart” features that were advertised and integral to the product’s purpose. The thermostat still functions manually, but the removal of these features constitutes a material degradation of the product I purchased. This forced obsolescence has left me, a paying customer, with a device that no longer delivers the functionality I reasonably expected. I view this as an unfair business practice and a disruption of my consumer rights. Additionally, while attempting to seek support, I was directed to a phone number that turned out to be a scam. I nearly provided personal information to unknown parties, highlighting the difficulty of accessing legitimate Google support and the risk posed by unreliable guidance.

Given these circumstances, I am requesting immediate resolution, including:

Restoration of functionality, or a replacement with a supported model of equivalent value.

Verified, secure support channels to prevent further exposure to fraudulent services.

I trust that Google will treat this escalation seriously and provide a fair and timely resolution, as the current situation represents a significant disruption to the product experience promised at purchase.

Also stuck with the same situation and similarly feel that this is a complete disregard for consumer rights.

Having spoken with customer support they tell me that they've been instructed to insist that the 50% discount of the alternative product is all that they can offer, and that there is no route to fixing the existing device's smart functionality.

Hello @KillWill,

Thank you for posting on the community and formally escalating your concerns regarding the remote and app functionality of your Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 2. I understand that the discontinuation of support has effectively removed core "smart" features from the product you purchased.

I can confirm that older generations of the Nest Thermostat have transitioned away from some remote access features and integrations as the platforms have evolved to the Google Home app ecosystem.

While I cannot directly restore the discontinued platform functionality, I can certainly assist you with the options Google provides to ensure you maintain smart control over your heating and cooling.

The team would like to learn more about this situation. When you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you're finished. We'll have someone reach out to you via email from there and provide you with the options to help you with this.

Also, if you want to contact us via call or chat, please use the official Google Nest Contact Us page to initiate this process: Contact Us

Regards,

Kevin

Hi @kcruzgonzalez - filled out for myself as in the same situation.

As I mentioned, I have spoken to Google support directly who were unhelpful, but if there's something that can be done to restore the smart functionality, I'd appreciate the help
