Google Nest Thermostat (3rd Gen) is killing my AC system with too many cycles per hour

Since installing the NEST thermostat a few months ago in our 2K sq ft house, our electric use has gone UP by nearly 1K kWh/month! Duke energy came and did a review/audit and said the NEST is allowing too many cycles per hour that the system is never reaching efficiency. Not to mention it is killing the condenser! It chases one degree all night for five to ten minutes at at time! This is a serious design flaw and I am shocked it hasn't been addressed!  As a Risk expert, it frightens me that Google, who has more data on everyone than anyone, cannot properly identify and address such huge risk!  There are a lot of people out here angry about their AC/heating units killed by Nest and it is only a matter of time before the attorney smell the money to be made!

What is the fix? Yes, the system is big and powerful, so it cools down quickly.  But that also means it takes more power to start.  The house can never get fully dried this way either.  I have shut all the vents near the thermostat to try and force longer cycles, but it hasn't made much difference.  Is Google ever going to fix this or do I just rip it out and buy as unit that has an adjustable/better differential?   Can't Google come up with an update!?

🤜🏻 Great way to put it! I have been having the same issues.

Google would rather lock simple parameters/deadbands and FORCE consumers to buy more sensors, or higher priced items to ADD sensors to disguise the fact that MAINTENCE BAND DEADBAND accessibility would fix the issue for FREE. Developer tools could be leveraged for software/firmware updates.

I have a years worth of Duke Energy bills to back @Builderific44, GOOGLE NEST THERMOSTAT is less efficient than the 2003 BASIC CONSTRUCTION GRADE THERMOSTAT I regrettably replaced.

Hi Folks,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm sorry that your Nest thermostat isn't working properly with your AC system; this could be frustrating since it turns on after too many cycles. Help's here.

For this concern, please follow a good article you can check out about multistage heating and cooling systems. There are options and recommendations you can try to isolate the issue.

Regards,

Byron

Interesting....  Apparently I only have a single stage, based on the wiring. So why is the Time to Temp on my thermostat always way over how long it will really run?  i.e., It will say 35 minutes to reach temp and it takes 15.  It has been installed for six months so I would think it would have figured it out by now!    BTW, I have since had an AC expert look over my system.  It is a bit large for the house, so may not be the most efficient. I was able to create routines in Samsung Smart Things to manipulate the Nest (AC reaches temp, turn to Eco Mode; Temp reaches three degrees above setting, turns back to Cool mode).  At best, I may be back to where I was before I installed the Nest...which I bought hoping to save money.  Never again
