Heater doesn't turn off once room reaches temperature with New Nest Learning Thermostat

I just installed a new learning nest thermostat and everything seemed to go well until me and my family started to sweat our heads off. We have radiant floor heating and the heat doesn't turn off once room reaches temperature. I even set the thermostat to 16C but kept on running at 26C nonstop. I don't think it is an issue with my heating system (valves, boiler, etc.) like I've read in some other posts because when I reinstalled my old thermostat (Honeywell) at 4am, the heater finally switched off.  The heating system is a 2 wire system (W and Rh).  Any ideas?

Hi gkandale,

Yikes! Let me take a look at this for you. Are you located in North America or Europe? Also, remove the thermostat display from the base and wait about five minutes, then check if the system turns off or stays on.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe

Hey Zoe,

Are you located in North America or Europe: [GK] I'm in Canada (N. AMERICA).

Remove the thermostat display from the base and wait about five minutes: [GK] Do I remove thermostat and wait 5 mins and plug back in? OR Do I remove thermostat and the heater should stop within 5 mins without plugging NEST back in?

Hi there,

Remove the thermostat display from the base and wait about five minutes. If your heater stops, then this is a thermostat issue. If not, then the heater is what causes it to keep running.

Thanks,

Zoe

OK thanks, when I get a chance I will try this.

Could it be a compatibility issue with my heater and NEST if it doesn't turn off? Because I put the old Honeywell thermostat back on and it works just fine - which means there isn't anything wrong with my system.

Hello gkandale,

If you have put in your old thermostat and the issue does not persist, then we have verified that the issue is with the thermostat. You may reach out to the store where you bought it to have it replaced, then let us know how it goes.

Hi Zoe, hope you are having a great weekend. I replaced the nest with a new learning thermostat and it doesn't turn the heater off once it is running either. I took the nest off the mount and the heat did not turn off either. I just put the Honeywell thermostat back on and the system now works again. The Honeywell originally had white wire on W and the black wire on R and that is how I setup nest. White in W1 and black in Rh...this is what the nest app said to do as well.

Any suggestions?

Hi there George,

I see. Could you share us a photo of your Honeywell thermostat wiring configuration and a photo of how you connected the wires to the Nest Learning Thermostat base?

Best,

Zoe
