Help with installation of gen 4 from a One. Wiring

I just upgraded to the 4th generation nest because the one went obsolete. I took pictures of the wiring but inside I found a small white wire and short black. I don’t know where they go? I have heat but the new set up isn’t recognizing I have air conditioning.

Hi @Destapratt,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand that you just upgraded your previous Nest Thermostat to the Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), and you need help with the installation. It looks like you took a picture of your old wiring configuration, but there are two wires you don't know where to connect, and the thermostat is only recognizing the heat but not the cooling. I appreciate the detailed information shared. No worries, let's work together to get this resolved. To help with that, I have some questions for you:

  • Do you have a conventional HVAC system (furnace and AC) or a heat pump system (single unit for both heating and cooling)?
  • Could you share a picture of your previous and current wiring configuration? You can upload the picture by clicking on the "camera icon" before sending the reply.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Cheers,
Jonathan
