How to add a nest thermostat to Google home?

Chris4k1

So I am trying to add my wife to the nest app, however it states I need to add her via the Google Home app.

I am also required to add the Nest to the app. But for some reason this seems impossible. If I scan the QR code it states a configuration error and cannot setup.

Tried the manual route, added my code and am then asked to enter the last 4 digits of my serial number. Problem is there is nowhere on the page to enter the digits!!

So how on earth can I add my nest to the app?

Google Nest's 2-app approach for its Google Nest products is a challenge for all of us customers.

Google Nest has it set up so that Google Nest household members are added in the Google Home app, even if you're trying to add a member so they can access the Nest Learning Thermostat in the Google Nest app.  Once you add the member under Settings | Household in the Google Home app, they should AUTOMATICALLY appear under Settings | Family in the the Google Nest app.

You cannot "add" the Nest Learning Thermostat to the Google Home app; it can only be added in the Google Nest app.  (That's why you encountered errors when trying to add it in the Google Home app.). Once your thermostat is added in the Google Nest app, it should AUTOMATICALLY appear in the Google Home app.

Be sure that you and your wife use the same Google Nest "home/structure" in both apps.  (You may only have one, but sometimes customers inadvertently create more than one.)

Hopefully once your thermostat is installed in the Google Nest app, it shows up in the Google Home app.  Some customers are reporting problems with this.

Thanks for explaining this.  What an abomination.  The folks who designed this janky setup should immediately quit out of embarrassment.  I can’t believe it is so bad.  Do they really expect the average consumer to wrangle through multiple app / account setups (and it better not be a work related Google account).  What a bunch of crap.  Unfortunately, nobody will read this until after they’ve purchased Google’s garbage.

Thanks again for your explanation.   Much appreciated.  None of the “smart guys” at Google could do so.  I’m ashamed for them.

yes, the way it works, bravo.

The additional issue I was facing that I was setting up the Termostat in a second home/structure that wasn't set up in the Nest Account (but in the home account). The latest Nest account app (on Android) didn't see  to allow for setting up the additional structure, the web interface, however did.  Once that was all set up, the actual Nest App/Thermostat connection was flowing perfectly.

It's knot easily.....

Yes, it's confusing dealing with 2 apps plus the home.nest.com website.

Thank you for your detailed explanation of the setup required. Typical googlenomics, buy tech so they don't get left behind and then fudge a requirement to sign in to their ecosystem.

All working now bar the Nest Thermostat showing in Google Home. This could be that we are not home arm tho.
