Last week my new Learning thermostat was installed in our holiday home. Installation was ok, everything looks fine however the Thermostat does not automatically switch to away mode so if someone forgets to lower the temperature it keeps on heating. On the Thermostat (via the nest app) i turned on home/away function, auto schedule off, true radiant 1 hour, eco temperatures low (12 celcius) and in the main settings of the nest app, i think it`s called, "what decides whenever home or not" (thermostat is in dutch) i have disabled phone location and only selected motion sensor on thermostat. But even after 5 hours nobody has entered the room (during the night) the thermostat still thinks someone is at home.
So i don`t get it. The activitysensor is working because when you enter the room the screen lights up.
When i go to activiy history in the main menu of the nest app i only see that i switched the thermostat to eco manually en back, no motion activities.
There is probably 1 small detail i forget but i can`t seem to find out which.
Youtube and Dutch Community didn`have an answer at the moment so i thought to expand my search range to international. I hope someone can help me because the motion sensor was the main reason to buy this thermostat, however the rest is working very well.
1 detail, i have also installed the Home app, but there is also set everything to use hame and away by sensor but i cannot image the Home app and Nest app will interfere with each other.

Hello Kootje,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to know more about this.
To confirm about the motion sensor, are you referring to the Nest Temperature Sensor linked to your thermostat or the built-in sensor on it? If this is caused by the thermostat sensor itself, it won't trigger the Home and Away Assist to switch to Away mode. A motion sensor only detects movement in the room.
Please take a look at this article to learn more about how it works, and let us know if you have more questions.
Regards,
Mark

Hello Mark, thank you for your answer. Everyday i am trying to figure out how this function is designed to work and what am i missing. In the attachements something i found about automatically switching from home to away and something about the motion sensor. To answer your question, no i have no extra sensors, the only thing is the thermostat. Also in the attachement, the settings in the nest app, when i am away (afwezig) i want it to switch to ECO, but in the last screenshot, you can see that i am away (afwezig) but no ECO. The strange thing is, yesterday evening i switched manually to home and 3 hours later it switched to away and ECO, but somewhere today it switched ECO off (someone probably walked into the room)but still says Away (afwezig)
It is a holiday home so what i expected was : guest is coming home, turn on heating to 19 degrees Celcius. Guest goes to bed around 22h and 23:30 (?) the thermostat would switch to away and ECO. in the morning the guest wakes up, turns on the heating to 20 degrees, breakfast, coffee and then around 10h the the guest will leave the house to go for a long walk so the thermostat should go to Away and ECO untill the guest walks in and the sensor noticed that someone is in the house and automatically switches to home and back to 20 degrees.
This is what i tought would happen but it`s not. Because it is a holiday home the automatic schedule function has no use, there is nothing to learn for the thermostat because every day/weekend is different.
I really hope i am doing something wrong and that is possible what i hoped for. I think i did my home work but somewhere i probably took a wrong turn

Hi, i am back again. At the moment i am in the house, we have guests, they put the heating to 20 degrees and then go sit outside. The thermostat still says away but the temperature stays set to 20 degrees, Whta is the point of making an away setting while only the icon changes?
There are three options, or i am so dissapointed in the thermostat that i have to replace it with a thermostat that actually goes to lower temperatures if nobody passes by for 2 hours, or this thermostat has a bug or i am to old for this modern technogoly and have to sit back and wait until the energybill comes.
Can is be an option to completely remove the thermostat from the home and enst app and remove those apps also?
I have really no idea what to do, no friends with this thermostat so no one to ask.

Hello, i would like to give it another try, 4 weeks i am struggeling without any results, only high energy use. My NLT always shows AWAY but never switches to ECO, (setting Away = ECO) also when i walk to the thermostat and turn the ring it still says AWAY however i am standing in front of it. I desabled phone location to keep it simple and only want to use the motion sensor in te thermostat to decide wether i am home or not. I am trying really hard but i just don`t get it.
