I set my Thermostat at 78 F during summer, thermostat kicks on to start cooling at 74 driving my electric bill way up unnecessarily on cooler days. I can't even turn off the cooling right away when I notice it, cuz my set Temp (78) is above the current temp that it is cooling at. Only way to stop it from cooling is turning off the NEST completely, which is a pain. I already verified from my NEST SCHEDULE that I do not have any pre-set schedule temps throughout the day.
What is the point of setting a Temp limit if the NEST is going to just kick on whenever it feels like? Very clearly a manufacturer defect.
If someone has any tips/suggestions to resolve this issue please HELP! My electric bill is going through the roof!

Hello,
Thank you for posting in the community! I understand your Nest Learning Thermostat is unexpectedly activating cooling at 74°F despite being set to 78°F, which is a frustrating and costly issue. I'm happy to help you get to the bottom of this.
To help me get a clearer picture of what's happening, could you please answer a few questions?
Could you please confirm if your system is a conventional AC, a heat pump, or a boiler?
Have you checked the wiring behind the Nest to ensure it matches the wiring diagram in the Nest app?
Does the cooling always kick on at exactly 74°F, or does the temperature vary?
Is the thermostat located near a window, vent, or another heat source that might be affecting its temperature reading?
Have you already tried restarting the thermostat by turning it off in the app or by holding the ring for 10 seconds?
@MarilouBode Please confirm your Nest Learning Thermostat type (Check the help article How to tell which Nest thermostat you have if necessary), and answer the same questions.
Once you have the answers, please let me know so we can continue troubleshooting.
Regards,
Humberto
