Nest 3rd Generation does not start AC compressor after completing initial cooling cycle

After a lot of troubleshooting with Google, rebooting hvac got the ac compressor working, but once target temperature was reached and compressor turned off, the compressor would not start again when the stat called for cooling.  Google is sending a replacement.

Hey Mytamurphy,

Checking back in — how's it going now? Have you had the chance to install the replacement thermostat already? If yes, how is it?

Best,

Melba

Hi Mytamurphy,

Thanks for the update. How's it going with your replacement? Is it working fine?

Thanks,

Edward

I've disabled many of the features to be sure the basic function of turning on the system as required.  Since the repayment  stat itself didn't yield different results i had enough data to go to my installer to look at the hvac system which the Google Sr agent deemed to be correct.  However having a replacement stat working the same could only implicate the hvac system itself.  It didn't take much time for the hvac tech to find the problem. Y1 & y2 were combined at the condensor.  Once corrected it's taken time for nest to know how long it actually takes to reach the target temp.  The frustrating part of this is this smart stat could not determine the wiring was wrong.  It's not exactly rocket science to know if cooling takes 2.5 hours and it never gets cooler something must be wrong even if it cannot know the wiring is incorrect.  Makes one wonder how smart this actually is.  While I have your attention you need to know you have half away solution. Works fine when leaving but coming back to a house too hot or too cold.  Again google knows where we are.  It should not be hard to calculate time to home and compare to time to target temp.  Why not have an option to check with user on when they expect to start heading home so nest can ensure a comfortable house to return to. Seriously where is the smarts?
