Nest Gen4 Dial Setting

When I press the dial about 99% of the time I get the “G” and the spinning dots before I can access the temp dial.  This is a very annoying delay. I just want to set the temp. Is there any way to bypass this?

Hi @JZsori43

Thank you for posting in the community! I understand the issue you’re experiencing with your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen), where pressing the dial almost always shows the “G” logo and spinning dots before you can access your temperature settings. I know how frustrating this can be, especially when you just want to adjust the temperature, and I am here to help.

To help me gather additional details, I’d like to ask some questions:

  • When did you install the thermostat?
  • When did the issue begin?
  • Is the thermostat's display seated properly?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Have you already tried any troubleshooting steps? If so, can you list them?

In the meantime, I recommend checking your thermostat’s physical connections to ensure everything is seated properly. Start by turning off the power for safety, then pull the display off the base. Verify that each wire is fully inserted so that its connector button stays pressed down; if a button pops up, ensure the wire tip is straight and has 1/3 inch of copper exposed before re-inserting it. Then, gently push the thermostat wires back into the wall to prevent any obstruction and snap the display back onto the base until it clicks into place. Finally, restart your thermostat by following the steps in this article: Restart a Nest Thermostat

I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Stephanie
