Nest Thermostat Rush Hour NOT Rewarding!

Whatever you do, DON'T FALL for the Rush Hour Rewards scam! It's a  completely TERRIBLE experience! When I read about the rebates and rewards programs, it was worded as if my temp could possibly be SLIGHTLY adjusted to save energy, which is great. I already do reduce my energy use during peak hours. But instead of my usual adjusted 78° my thermostat is locked on 83°!!! I have both of my elder parents living in my home who CANNOT Be in that heat for 2-3hrs. It is NOT ok. That's not the worst part of it. They have no way to UNENROLL. Seriously. There is a number posted to call, but it's no longer a working #. It routes you back to here. I found a Contact Us at bottom of page and there was an option to get a call or to Chat. I had them call me. Of course it was automated A.I. to call and put me on hold for the 1st 5 minutes. A person with a very strong Indian accent came on and once I stated my issue about Remove Me from Rush Hour, he quickly said he'd have to put me on hold to transfer to the Senior Support Dept. So every 5 mins he would check back just to tell me no one was available and to hold for 5 more minutes.

I was On Hold for about 25minutes.

I finally hung up after he said I should call back in an hour.

@RushHourRewardsProblems

FYI- The Google  help desk # that called me was (313)483-9127

Here is an answer I found in another thread. But it is Not the answer, because there is only one easy solution. The NOT as easy answer is to HACK your Nest by connecting USB to your computer .  The simple solution is to Disconnect your Nest Thermostat and put your old non-smart, non-controlling one back in.

How to cancel Nest Rush Hour on line:

On a computer

  1. Sign into the Nest Renew portal.
  2. Choose the home with the Nest Renew subscription that you want to cancel.
  3. At the top right, click the Google Account icon.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one you used to enroll in Nest Renew for the account you wish to cancel.
  5. Tap Settings › Cancel (next to your Nest Renew ID number).

On a mobile device

  1. Sign into the Nest Renew portal.
  2. Choose the home with the Nest Renew subscription that you want to cancel.
  3. At the top right, tap the Google Account icon.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one you used to enroll in Nest Renew for the account you wish to cancel.
  5. At the top left, tap Menu E.
  6. Next to the home address, tap the down arrow y
  7. A list of homes that are connected to Nest Renew will appear. Choose the home with the Nest Renew subscription that vou want to cancel.
  8. Tap Settings > Cancel (next to your Nest Renew ID number).

This program is a scam. It benefits only the energy provider and their grid impact. I have the opposite issue. I am away and Nest is even set to away temperatures @ 85deg, but the indoor never gets above 82 usually. Was 80 degree at 630pm and it started precooling to 78deg. I found out something was wrong when my energy bill was much more expensive than when we were home. And the usage showed it turning on my nest everyday for rush hour. Their program started turning on my Nest and cooling to a lower set temp than my away temp when I'm not even at home!

Without a way to unenroll from Rush Hour yourself. I contacted Google chat and they said they sent to another dedicated team that works with the energy company to unenroll. I will see if I even hear back from them. If not, I think creating a new email account not enrolled in it as the Nest account may fix it.

Hi folks,

@MacLissa, thanks for bringing this to our attention, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation.

I'm glad that you found steps to fix this situation on your own. We'll also take your feedback as an opportunity to learn and to be able to provide a better experience in the future. Feel free to create a new thread if you have more questions or other concerns.

@Jbeez, I understand that this is frustrating and disappointing on your part. I'm sorry that you've had to make so much effort to reach out to us. Have you heard back from our support team that will assist you in unenrolling from the Rush Hour Rewards Program? If not, you may get in touch with our support team by visiting the Google Nest Contact Us page. Once you unenroll, your thermostat will no longer participate in Rush Hour events.

Best,

Zoe
