Nest Thermostat Second Generation Not following schedule

Recently moved into a house that has a nest thermostat (Display-2.12 software 5.9.4-5).

I reset the thermostat wiping all history when I moved in and was able to successfully add my the thermostat to the nest app on my phone.

For two days now I have tried to have a schedule followed but thermostat will not follow the schedule.  I want it to be 73 F during the day and 68 F at night. Last night I was woken up to thermostat trying to take the temp to 50 F!

I have triple checked and eco sense is off, smart schedule off, temp sense off, and any other setting I could read that could cause automatic changes is off.  

Can someone please provide troubleshooting? I know this is a common issue but frustrating that this product is so hard to follow  a simple schedule. One other possibilty related note is that occasionally the dial on thermostat will go unresponsive and I need to pull off the wall and reattach to reset (there is a C Wire).

In this situation, I suggest the following:

• Review your Nest's energy history to see if any features might be affecting the schedule.
• After reviewing the history, reset the schedules following the instructions in this article: Restart or reset a Nest thermostat.
• Ensure the 'Early-On' feature is disabled by setting it to 'On schedule.' You can find more information here: Early-On.
