Nest Thermostat install can’t connect

Using Home app to install new Nest Tstat, first time thru connected ok, then tested with furnace and said low power. Exited setup. Fixed power wire. Re-tried setup and this time it won’t connect. Said to reset Nest Tstat, but won’t bring up menu on display. Says “continue setup in home app”. Now stuck. I’ve tried pulling the batteries and replace. How do I reset or how do I reconnect ? Thx

Hi Rwmeyers,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. Could you please uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app? After that, put the batteries back on the Nest Thermostat then set it up again on the Google home app.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best,
Jenelyn

Hi, Jenelyne

thanks for your reply.

your advice would have me uninstall google home. Would this not wipe out all my home devices? This seems like a last resort, used when all else fails.

while I was waiting for some help, I reinstalled the nest 5 times with different settings. The connectivity worked sometimes and not others. When it did connect I ran the test cycle. It complained the nest did not have enough power. This was very frustrating as the nest product was NOT advertised with this limitation. Suggest you remedy for the sake of your new prospects.

I was lucky enough to know an HVAC tech who confirmed how I could get power from the furnace motherboard, as you say a C wire. I was also lucky to have an extra wire, the 5th wire fed from the furnace to the Tstat. I installed wire 5 on the MB, C terminal, and connected to C at the Tstat nest.

Initially I was able to get the nest operational with 4 wires. After it failed the power test, I selected “I have ordered the power adapter”. Again this part can be improved too. And voila it finished the test and I was able to program it.

After it was operational, I installed the C wire as noted above, and the device error went away.

At this time I need no further assisstance. It was very confusing and lacked initial requirements at time of purchase. Not a great story.
