Nest switching to Eco while I am Home

Full disclosure, my Nest has only been installed for 4 days, so I may be jumping the gun on posting this, but I want to be sure I'm "teaching" my Nest properly.

First off, I have searched Google and read other posts on this issue. I believe that I have all my settings properly input. I have Home/Away Assist set to use my phone's location. Most of the day I spend in my office less than 20 feet away from the thermostat.

Each of the past three days, I have been working at my desk, when I realize that I'm getting warm. I'm in Texas and we're currently experiencing 100+ degree temps during the day. My normal daytime setting is 78F and my Eco mode max temp is 82F. When I notice it's getting overly warm, the temp has typically risen to about 80-81. I'll then open up my app and  find that my location has switched over to Away.

In addition, this will happen overnight while I'm asleep as well, but it's not as big of an issue, since the temps in the house don't rise as quickly in the morning. But I still would prefer that the Nest not think that I'm away just because I am asleep and not interacting with the app.

Any suggestions on how to get the Nest to stop thinking I'm Away when I am at Home?

Hello TX_Golfer,

I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you. Let me help you out. Just a few questions: Is there any family member who has lived in your house or any house pet? Have you checked if the Address is correct in the Nest App? If you are using an iOs device make sure you set the location to Always. Here’s the link on how to change the location permissions on your iOS device.

Let me know if that works.

Best,
Edmond

Thanks for replying. I have not yet installed the app on my wife's phone, so right now it's only on mine. It's a Samsung, so no IOS. Not sure what difference a pet makes, but yes, we have a dog. I'm pretty sure I have the location settings correct within the Nest App. I simply don't understand why the Nest thinks I'm away when my phone is inside my house. It just switches from Home to Away and goes into Eco mode multiple times every day and while I sleep. I'm about to give up and turn the Location feature off and just revert to a normal schedule like I had with my old thermostat. Then I'll just have to remember to turn it up manually when I leave and turn it down when I return home. Sorta defeats the purpose of buying a $200 thermostat!

Hey there,

Thanks for all the information. I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. Since you are using an Android device, Have you tried turning on the location accuracy on your phone? Check out this link to Manage your Android device’s location settings.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,
Edmond

Yes, all location settings are on and working. They've been turned on ever since I installed the Nest. I double checked some of the ones in your link to be sure.
