Nest thermostat keeps reading 99° f

As of this morning my nest thermostat continues to read 99°. I've tried multiple restarts, cleaning the sensor, using computer duster will change the temperature it reads but will continue to revert back to 99 after a minute or two. I don't want my animals to freeze on these cold days.

I'm having the same issue. Tried restarting; tried factory reset; tried adding as a "new home" - still says 96 degrees (said 101 degrees a few hours ago). It's actually about 63 degrees.

As of 2:00 a.m. February 18, 2025, Our Nest thermostat is reading indoor temperature as 99 degrees to 102 degrees. It is 62 inside and in the 40’s outdoors. Did an automatic software update install recently? What gives? Restarting it didn’t work and I don’t feel comfortable telling my wife to pull it off the wall for 30 minutes.

Most likely a sensor in the base of the thermostat has failed. Yes, it surprised me too, there is circuitry in the base that has sensors in it, I found a refurbished base on eBay and now I am not having this issue anymore.

Hi downhillbkr247,

Thank you for reaching out. I understand your Nest Thermostat is consistently reading 99°F. I'm happy to assist you! Before proceeding, I need some information to better understand your situation. Could you please tell me the wire labels you have, and provide a picture showing how the temperature is displayed? Also, have you noticed any error codes on the display?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Manuel
