Nest thermostat randomly changing temperature

Hjengelson
Community Member

Our thermostat will randomly turn the heat up to 71°F. We do use a schedule but 71° isn't on there at all. It's 69° when we're home, and 65° during the day (while we're at work) and at night. Also nowhere in the log does it show a temperature change. It shows when it changes for the schedule but nothing else. It's been doing this only for the last couple of months. We've had this thermostat for almost 3 years. We live in Minnesota so this is costing us big time during the winter if we aren't paying attention to the temps. Does anyone have a good solution?! I haven't found one so far.

Hi @Hjengelson,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat is changing the temperature randomly, but no need to worry; I will be happy to help you.

I need to know a few things about your thermostat in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • What Nest thermostat model do you have? For your reference, you can check out this article on How to Tell Which Nest Thermostat You Have.
  • Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  • Have you done any troubleshooting steps before contacting us?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • "What is the make and model of your HVAC equipment?
  • Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Jeremy.

  • We have the classic Next Thermostat.
  • There are no error messages.
  • We have reset everything and remade the schedule.
  • I don't know a specific date, but it just started happening this winter. We turned on the heat for the first time the end of October.
  • I don't know the make and model of our furnace off hand.
  • I assume you're referring to a blinking light on the furnace, and I don't think so, but I don't know off hand.

Here are some general tips to exhaust all the possible issues:

  • Open the Nest app.
  • Tap Settings
  • Home/Away Assist
  • Home or Away
  • Select the thermostat.
  • Switch off automatic switching.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Best regards,
