Nest thermostat sets itself to heat to 90

So I have seen multiple threads and post about this issue all around the internet. I'm now on my third replacement nest thermostat that has done this. I'm fairly tech savvy and was able to come up with a solution, but I negates most of the functionality of the thermostat. It basically comes down to it being an app issue. There's something wrong with the software and commands the thermostat receives from the app because once the thermostat gets removed from Wi-Fi it stops having this issue. To reiterate, it's not an issue with the thermostat, it's an issue with the app. Now if we can just Google to actually fix it.

Hello DeltaKilo,

I'm so sorry for the bad experience you had using the Nest app. We're working hard to improve the user experience, and we appreciate your feedback.

Can you tell us more about the communication issues with the Nest app and the Nest Thermostat? Is your thermostat showing offline and you are unable to control it remotely? Also, which Nest Thermostat is this?

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Its a gen 3 learning thermostat. I don't know about communication issues with the app or the actual problem, all I know is that when the thermostat itself is connected to the internet, it will randomly switch to heat and turn the heat up to 90 as many other posts have indicated. I have even attempted to switch the thermostat over to the iot by itself and it still does it. Every time it does it, the history either says I did it, or it was set by the system. The only way I can stop getting the thermostat setting itself to 90 is to disconnect it from the internet, so really the only possible causes at this point are a flaw in the programming of the app or someone hacked my thermostat, which Google has already addressed and claims that there is no system infiltration.

Hi there,

Got it! Thanks for the clarification. It appears to be within your thermostat settings themselves. To be sure, clear the temperature schedule on your thermostat by going to Reset and selecting Schedule to confirm. Once refreshed, ensure that the auto-schedule is disabled under the Nest Sense settings. Also, turn off the Home and Away Assist for it not to trigger and switch between modes.

Restart your thermostat as soon as the changes have been made. Monitor its behavior and keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
