I would like to propose a compromise in regards to Google ending support for the 1st and 2nd gen Nest thermostats, I installed a 2nd Gen device into my mums home less than 10 years ago to give her ease of use by being able to talk to the use via 'hey google' feature, I am extremely dismayed that support is ending for this device, I know many people that have these devices installed and the main selling point was the smart features and remote access that drew people to investing money into these devices, without those features it just becomes an expensive dumb thermostat.
Optics on this is very bad, the internet is full of negative press regarding this news , and peoples trust in Google regarding their smart devices is now at an all time low, I myself have lost all faith in Google supporting any of their hardware long term when they have ended support for so many of their past products.
My Proposal,
Please could you consider including remote access/smart features of the 1st and 2nd Gen Nest Thermostat as part of the base Google One subscription, I think this is a very fair compromise, at least then people have the option to have the smart features of their 'legacy' device if they wish to.
