When in heat mode, the fan won't stay on

Hello Nest Community!

Hoping someone can help. We have a Nest Learning Thermostat. It worked fine all summer, but now that it's winter - when we turn the heat on the fan only stays on for about a minute. It then kicks off, but the heat continues to run. Worth noting - we live in the Arizona desert so we have a heat pump. Our wire configuration is Y1, G, O/B, RH, & C. We just had maintenance guy in to check out our system & he determined the issue is at the thermostat. Is there anything I can do to continue using this thermostat? Or are we going to have to go back to our old dumb one. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi Winkan8r,

Uh-oh! i'm sorry to hear that your Nest Learning Thermostat is experiencing issues where the fan turns off after about a minute, but the heat continues to run. Let's give these steps a try:

  1. Ensure your Nest Thermostat's fan settings are correctly configured by navigating to the "Fan" settings in the thermostat menu and set it to "Auto" or "On" depending on your preference. Setting "On" will keep the fan running continuously, while "Auto" allows the fan to cycle on and off with the heating or cooling system.
  2. Double-check the thermostat's wiring connections to ensure they are secure and properly inserted. Note the wire configuration (Y1, G, O/B, RH, C) and ensure they correspond to the labeled terminals. If loose or disconnected, reattach them firmly.
  3. Restart the Nest Thermostat by removing it from the base plate or turning off power for a few minutes, then reattach it or restore power and observe if the issue persists.
  4. To ensure optimal performance, it's crucial to regularly check for firmware updates on your Nest Thermostat, which can be done via the Nest app or the thermostat's settings menu, to address any known issues.
  5. If the above steps don't resolve the issue, perform a factory reset on the Nest Thermostat to restore it to its default settings. After the reset, set up and reconfigure your preferences.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
