I've got Nest thermostats and am happy with them. I've recently got to a place where I need more thermostats so I specifically chose Nest again so I could just add the new thermostats to the app. Once I began setting the first new thermostat up, much to my wonder and amazement papa Gargle, having bought Nest I guess, made the Nest app I've got irrelevant to hooking up my new thermostat.
So, okay, a little bit annoyed I decided to give in and download Gargle's app - something I didn't want to do. Lo and behold! I start trying to set my new thermostat up and I'm told I've got to migrate my existing Nest account to Gargle.
That's it. The new Nest thermostats are going back and I'm going to use something else. I'm sick and tired of how intrusive these tech kingdoms are getting.
