Google Nest Pro very slow

Anderzone

My google nest pro is putting out very slow wifi.

I have a computer connected directly to the router that is very fast and tests at 600+mbps. The google home app also says the nest is getting 600+mpbs from the router and the Home app shows "great connection" for all points in the nest.

The speed for wifi has been horrible though. TV is always buffering, video calls on my work laptop are impossible, and I am often switching to 5g on my phone because the wifi is even slow to load web browsers. When I do a speed test on my phone with the phone within a foot or two of a unit I get 10-20mbps.

I have tried reseting everything and unplugging everything but the problems continue.

Just setup my Nest Wifi Pro (3 pack) and seeing similar. Speed test in the Google Home app reports my full ISP speeds (I only have 100/20Mbps currently) but the Chrome speed test on my Pixel 7a gets 15Mbps sitting in the same room as the base Wifi Pro router. I have a lot of neighbors but this is worse than the ancient Netgear 802.11n router I just replaced.

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out to the community @Anderzone and @ma314. I'm sorry to hear that your Google Nest Pro Wi-Fi is very slow. But do not worry; I am happy to help you fix this issue. To assist you better, I have some questions for you:

  • What is the approximate area of your home or apartment in square feet?
  • What access points are affected?
  • Were there any recent changes in your network setup?
  • How many devices actively use the internet at once?
  • Did you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
  • Do you use a modem and router combo?
  • How often does this issue occur?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Jeremy.

I was able to resolve my issue after connecting each of the wifi pro devices via Ethernet so I have a fully wired backhaul and then restarting all three. That doesnt really explain why I was seeing poor performance to the base unit originally - the only thing I can think of is that my Pixel phone was associated with one of the upstairs units and was therefore making two wireless hops to reach the internet. I'm not sure how quickly you'd expect it to roam to the base unit with a much stronger signal - but I must have been sitting there for at least 15 minutes.

To answer your questions:

What is the approximate area of your home or apartment in square feet? 2200

What access points are affected? Unclear. I was experiencing low performance in all rooms but it could be my wireless devices weren't roaming when I moved rooms.

Were there any recent changes in your network setup? I had just installed the Nest Wifi Pro

How many devices actively use the internet at once? Approx. 15-20.

Did you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? No

Do you use a modem and router combo? No, modem in bridge mode.

How often does this issue occur? Most of the time during the first day after installation.
