Google Wifi mesh seeds dropping every day

Hi all,

I've got the Nest Wifi Router mesh setup at home (3 units), what I'm seeing is that every other day or so, my nearest point is dropping the wifi speeds through the floor.

Connected over cable, I'm seeing 200mbs+ speeds. Over Wifi I've getting under 15mbs. I start up the Android app, and restart the Wifi point and the speeds are back up to 200mbs+ again.

I have to do this every few days to 'refresh' the speed. Is this normal? Is there a permanent fix to this?

Having the exact same problem with fibre -- 900 up and down from the main unit, and close to 400 up/down from the 2 access points. Then every couple of days the access points slow down to almost nothing and I have to restart them and run the mesh test to get them back to speed. Makes absolutely zero sense and is an obvious software problem, and I think it may have started with the May update.

No idea what a fix might be ?

My only fix so far that consistently works is to restart the access points and run the mesh test from the AP that was having the problem. I have no preferred activities and have the same problem whether WPA3 is turned on or off. IPv6 is disabled.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community. I’m sorry to hear the trouble with your WiFi connection. Let’s further look into it. Try doing the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi > Settings > Advanced Networking.
  3. Tap DNS.
  4. Select Custom and enter “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4”.
  5. Go back to Wi-Fi > Settings.
  6. Tap Privacy Settings.
  7. Toggle Nest Wifi cloud services off and on, then tap Save.
  8. Restart your entire network.
  9. If the issue persists, factory reset the mesh point.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex

Hi,

I tried the instructions above, but you can't update the setting like that, it requires IPV6 server details as well.

Hey SMcCran,

Please force-close your Google Home app and make sure it's up-to-date first. Once done, try to change your DNS settings again.

Keep me posted.

Lovely
