Local Computer (LAN) does not recognize Printer which is connected to Nest Wifi

OliRamon

Hello Community,

perhaps this problem has anyone else in the community:

My Printer is connected to the Nest Wifi and it is shown in the Google Home app (Devices). My Local Computer which is connected to the Internet via LAN does not find this printer.

Has anyone some advice to solve this problem?

If you only have the one single Nest WiFi Router unit, you could put it in bridge mode, so the WiFi clients it serves will be part of the "outer" network created by your current router. But, if you do that, you won't be able to add more Nest WiFi units (Router or Point) or Google WiFi units to expand the coverage.

Hello @OliRamon

Can you confirm that you have an "outer" network to which your computer is connected via Ethernet? If so, it's important to understand that the Nest WiFi Router (which is also a firewall) is creating another "inner" network, and there are very limited ways devices on these two networks can talk to each other.

However, if you mean your computer is connected to the Nest WiFi Router's LAN Ethernet port, which is part of the same network created by the Nest WiFi Router, then it should be able to see the printer. If it can't I would verify it has been configured to use DHCP to receive its network configuration and has been rebooted since being connected to the Nest WiFi Router.

Hello MichaelP,

thanks for your quik response. My local Computer is connected wit LAN to my main Rooter. The Google Wifi Router is also connected via Ethernet to this Rooter. The Main Rooter reparts the Signal via Etheret to each of my rooms.

With our first paragraph you've written you told me more than the support could do...

Are there any settings I can change to solve my problem? With my Google Home Mini in ombination with spotify i have the same problem...

Yeah, it sounds like you have two networks – the "outer" network created by your existing router and the "inner" network created by Google WiFi (which is also a router). This is not a recommended configuration, since it causes the sorts of issues you are seeing here. If you can't eliminate the outer router entirely (e.g., if it's also your modem), then you can get all of your wired devices connected to the same "inner" network created by Google WiFi by using an inexpensive unmanaged Ethernet switch connected to the primary Google WiFi unit's LAN Ethernet port and using that to feed the Ethernet ports throughout your home.

The only other configuration would be to put the primary Google WiFi unit in bridge mode, but if you do that, you won't be able to have a mesh network that includes any secondary Google WiFi units.

Hello MichaelP,

i can't eliminate my main router (which contains the modem of course). This is my distribution point to all of my rooms. Unfortunately it is in a media destribution box in the wall at the entrance of the house and it is coverd with a metal door (very clever...), so the Wifi Signal is not spreaded well in my house. I thought bying the nest wifi, wich is in the living room, will solve this problem...

What do you mean with secondary Google Wifi units? An additional Access point or everything what is connected via Wifi to the Nest Wifi?

I will try if i can solve the pr

oblem with port forwarding.

Thanks for your support

Hi Jeff,

putting the nest wifi in bridge mode has solved the problem. I only can't use the Guest Network but that's ok ok. I vever used it in my life.

Very special thanks to @MichaelP  and this community.

I don't know why the official Google support could not help me...
