Nest Wifi Pro speeds half of what ISP provides

I've seen a number of posts with similar issues, but I'd like to share my troubleshooting steps to see if anyone has suggestions.

First off, I just upgraded to gigabit internet, 1 gig down and 1 gig up. Speeds from ISP look good when I connect directly to their modem.

My Nest mesh only provides up to 800 down and 400 up on my hardwired devices. Around 500 down and 250 up on 6ghz. I have two Nest Wifi Pro units in my mesh network.

To resolve this, I have tried the following steps:

  • Resetting my network
  • Using ISP DNS
  • Using custom DNS 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
  • Unplugging power to router
  • Unplugging ethernet from router
  • Unplugging wired connections from router
  • Factory reset and trying the above steps

I have also tried swapping my router and access point and then trying the above steps.

In addition, I have attempted to play around with some other settings, but nothing seems to improve performance. Is there something I have not tried yet? Has anyone had luck with RMAs?

Hi

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest WiFi Pro is only half of what your ISP offers. I will do my best to help you right now.

I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps you have done. I recommend checking the DHCP IP reservation or setting a static IP. When you use DHCP IP reservation, you're telling your WiFi network to assign the same IP address to a specific device whenever that device connects to your network.

Change your DHCP settings:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites in WiFi Settings and Advanced Networking. (IP reservation number needs to be provided by your ISP).
  • Tap DHCP IP reservations Add IP reservations.
  • Tap the device for which you’d like to assign a static IP.
  • Enter a static IP address, then tap Save.

You may need to disconnect this device from your WiFi network and reconnect it before it is assigned the reserved IP. Also, you can refer to this article to learn more about DHCP IP reservation or set a static IP address for a device.

Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.

Regards,

Gabriela
