Nest wifi disconnected... Again

devandetta
Community Member

Nest wifi is disconnected, again. Have read and went through all the trouble shooting. Had issues last month and now again this month with the wifi disconnecting. Seems like this is reoccurring problem and it's effecting many people that have the same system. Google... Please advise, we need a solution already. This has been on going for awhile and has yet to be resolved.

A lot of people have said it and I have to say it myself but I am frustrated and tired of the amount of times I have been unplugging and plugging the router and wifi points. Still can't connect... C,mon google.

Yep I got a Google nest when I moved in to my new home 2 years ago.  It’s hooked up to power (so not powered by batteries) and is the ONLY product in my home that has had wifi issues since I purchased it.

sometimes it stays connected for weeks, other times hours.  I’m in one of those stays connected for hours phases this month….

To follow up on this too…

sometimes wi-if gets disconnected.  Other times wi-fi is connected but I get disconnected from the nest server.  That can’t be a wifi issue I’d assume

Hey Jmikell14,

Thanks for the update. To confirm, what specific Google Nest device are you referring to? Is it the Nest Wifi point as well? I'll wait for your reply.

Thanks,
Abi

Sorry I forgot to mention that.  I’m talking about a nest thermostat

Hello everyone,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

To confirm, please let me know if there’s any step you haven’t done here:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network
  • You can skip any step if you’ve done it already.

Let us know how it goes. If you’ve already done all the steps above and the issue persists, let me know so we can continue to help.

Best,
Abi

As for me

Before being with this cable company  i never had connection problems with my nest    but the speed of the internet was way lower..so i had to chsnge for the new one

So i guess the "interference " should not be the problem since i didnt change my house configuration

I tried to change the dns  but it asks for the ipv6 principal and secondary server too and i dont know what to type there

So i tried to disable ipv6 in the google home app but each time i click the green sliding button to turn it off      it loads for couple of seconds and the the screen return  with the sliding button still in the "on " position..like it doesnt work to disable it

Hi folks,

@Jmikell14, please post your concern to our Google Nest Community for Thermostats instead for proper assistance.

@KevinDelorme, my apologies for the late reply. You can put 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844 for the IPv6 servers. Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Abi
